Does it have EFI Fuel injection Or K Jet ?

 

i would clean the idle air control valve and throttle body- should make things run a bit better. Then check for any leaks in the air intake hose, especially after the AMM. Also check the AMM - unplug it and see if she runs better. Do a full service too(wires, plugs, air + fuel filter, distributor rotor and cap) and you should be right. If not then start looking at other possibilities like the ECU.

 

Every volvo ive had with the 8 valve motor has always run like a dog when i first get it due to neglect.

The engines with the distributer at the back especially, people are afraid to go there due to lack of clearance!!

the distributer cap and rotor arm is always in a really bad way. Take them off and check them.

That's actually a real distributor back there? I wondered if it was that, or a cam sensor that triggered the coil set.

 

Ye it is a proper distributer.

I can see what u mean by thinkin its a coil pack. Does look a little like one.

The cap is awkward to get off if u havent got decent tools. I use i a 10mm ratchet spanner with a wobble-end so i can reach the bolts easily.

And if the rotor arm has been on there for a while it gets seized on to the shaft! They are a nightmare to get off and they break easily because they are very brittle.

Some good advice if you havent got alternate transport to the motor factors:- buy a rotor arm ready to fit because it probably will break when you try and take it off!
