Having similar "slips" in most shifts intermittently with a'04 25T. VIN ends in 364050.

I own a 2001 V70 T5 with 75K miles. I had the TCM software update done several years ago and have had the tranny serviced at 40K and 70K. I have now developed slippage
when shifting from second to third gear...not always and usually during very moderate acceleration. My last six vin numbers are 135722. thanks for the help

my son in college has a 2001 v70-cross country with the geartronic shift. this weekend it started overrevving during moderate acceleration as if it wasn't going into gear. the last 6 digits of the vin# are 025022. it did it on saturday night when he was passing a car, and tonight when he got back to school in the mountains 90 miles away, he told me it drove "funny" and was slipping again.

I have a 2002 XC70, and I am also having problems. I have just had an upgrade downloaded, and it is still revving between gears sometimes. Usually when I slow right down, using brakes, and then hit the accelerator fast to get across a dangerously blind intersection.
It also sometimes revs when changing from 3rd to 2nd, particularly on hills when travelling slowly.
This car comes out of warranty in less than a month and I'm not sure what else I can do to ascertain the problem. I have heard all sorts of explanations, like "well, those transmissions do have a bit of a lag in them", to "you must be driving with your left foot on the brake".
I just want to know if these symptoms are indicative of a pending meltdown in my gearbox.
Can anyone help?

I Have a 2001 Volvo S60 T5 Geartronic with 85k miles (135k km) it has the same problem with it's gearbox and Volvo can't help me except to replace the gearbox.
I would like to know has anyone got a workshop manual for me so that I can sort this problem out myself and could anyone tell me how I can hack into the computer to reset the warning lights.

Get a new lower tranny mount from IPD people! It is the solution! There are two available (go to ipdusa.com and read customer comments on replacing this). I just replaced mine with the blue poly model and although there extra vibration at start it quickly goes away and the car performs like never before! They sell a beefed up rubber model as well.
You can also quickly check your old mount without raising the car. It is a simple bolt on operation. No need to support the tranny, takes all of ten minutes. If your old mount is torn well then it is pretty obvious.
IPD should be paying me for the PR but I'm so incredibly happy to have solved the shifting problem that I need to get the word out!!!!

I have the opposite problem.
My 05 Geartronic delays downshifting from 3rd to 2nd and 1st, while decelerating to a traffic light for instance.
When it finally shifts after 1/2sec it clonks and engages gear with a thud.
Also when kicking down from 3rd to 2nd it delays, revs raise by <1000rpm then it downshifts with the already mentioned clonk and thud, making my wallet palpitate.
On manual mode it still does it but less conspicuously.
flashed the latest software a week ago, no effect.
As it does it only when the car is warmed up I figured it might need a GB oil flush and change.
will do it this week and report back.
The Volvo dealer suggested remedy? Replace transmission... Are we serious?

THE ONLY REAL SOLUTION IS TO INDIVIDUALLY BRING SMALL CLAIMS COURT ACTION AGAINST VOLVO FOR EACH VEHICLE WITH THE PROBLEM. BY GOING THIS ROUTE FOR ABOUT $50.00 YOU GET THEM INTO YOUR LOCAL COURT, AND WE CAN EACH DEMAND COPIES OF THE COMPLAINT FILE, TECHNICAL DATA AND INTERNAL CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN CONSUMERS, ATTORNEYS, VOLVO, AND REGULATORY AGENCIES.

Hoping you are still able to provide some feedback on resolving transmission problems using VIN # info. I have a 2002 XC70 with same issue as others have expressed. Have done the software update which seemed to fix problem for 1 day but reverted back. Last 6 digits of VIN 049311. Thanks!
Here are the low to high cost path to try to remedy this problem
1. Call Volvo dealer service dept with your VIN to see if your B4 cover might be suspect.
2. Check the lower transmission torque mount
3. Update to latest TCM software and perform the transmission adaptation
4. Flush or drain+fill the transmission fluid
Diagnosing the correct problem and remedy maybe tricky and time consuming. After these, you are probably looking at high priced repairs such as valve body or new gear box.
