I just purchased a 1991 240. On the way home from picking the car up, I noticed that the termperature gauge was always on cold except when stopped for a few minutes it would move slightly up to min. range. I also noticed that air coming from the heater was warm and not hot even thought the temperature lever was pushed as far as it could go into the red. Could this be a thermostat issue or loose engine belt?

The first thing I would check is the thermostat.Thats what it sounds like and they are known to break.

Most of the time when the comp board goes bad it gives an erratic reading.Such as overheating when it isn't.
