Hi All;

I have a question about my 2000 S70 I am hoping someone may have experienced. I have a 91A7 code that has now poped up. This code refers to the throttle control module in which the local dealer says needs replacing and is a $900 part. Just curious if anyone has had to replace theirs? The dealer just didn't seem to be able to asnwer my questions. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced.

Thanks Riverjet502

Since posting the above question the other day, I since learned a bit more about this problem. Volvo has a HUGE problem with these throttle control modules. Part# 8644347 is also used on different models as well with the same problem occuring. I also have found a difference in dealer pricing. One asks $900 for this part another asks $590. Seems the problem stems from a small grove being worn into the module which causes havic. The problem seemed to start showing up in the 99's and up from what I have resently found out. Cleaning the module in the early stages seems to help some. The only real cure is to replace the module and hope it doesn't go bad in another 25,000 miles...

True but try cleaning it.You might catch it early.
I have seen cars that clean it every 20,000 miles and now they have 150,000 miles on it and still the factory throttle body.

I replaced my throttle module in summer 03, about 3 months after I bought the car. It was under the dealer warranty (I rescued my volvo from a honda dealership), so I don't remember what exactly it cost over my deductable, but I think it was in the neighborhood of $600.
I also got this done at a volvo specialist, not the volvo dealership. My experience with the dealership was not a good one so I went elsewhere.
If you're in the portland, OR area, I'll send the name of the best mechanic, volvo or otherwise, that I've ever met.

Hey, James...

You COULD make a post somewhere in the "Marketplace" Forums, as advertisement.

Thanks!

My throttle body had to be replace at 75,000 miles at a cost to me of $971.00. My extended warrantee had just expired a few months prior. Apparently from what I am reading from many sites, this is a widespread problem and Volvo is failing to recognize the problem and issue a recall.

I had the work done at a Volvo dealer in Austin, Texas and was told the problem could cause throttle failure at any time. Sounds like there should be a recall. What do you guys think?
