When the radio is on and I put my foot on the gas, the radio makes a sound to indicate that somehow they are connected. It's a high pitched continuous hum sound. Any suggestions what this could be? Also the reception to the radio is very static, I tried to adjust it, but it didn't make a difference.

Most of the time that means a bad ground somewhere.
Is it the stock radio?

Yes, I believe the radio came with the car. What do you mean when you say bad ground?

thanks

A bad ground in the wiring system.
It could be at the radio or at the battery.
You can also slide the radio out and make sure the antenna wire is in all the way.
To remove it push in the little arms on the sides of the radio then pull them out and the radio should come out.
Then you can also make sure that no one had a C/D changer with a FM modulator in there and left parts in there causing trouble.
