I have purchased a used 04 XC90. I have done about 2000km since I bought it, and I was checking the oil dipstick and noticed that it was sort of "burnished" with the color of the oil (not all over, mostly near the bottom). The marks came off with a bit of rubbing with a clean rag. The color of the marks was like a dark honey, the same color as the oil (not black).
So I am wondering what this could mean. I checked the dipstick on my Honda, and for the most part it was clean. The Volvo has about 28,000km on it. When I bought it, the dealer did a 24,000km service which included an oil change. Could this be caused from the previous owner not changing the oil, or the car running to hot, or is this something thats normal, and I shouldn't worry to much about it?
