Does anyone know how Volvo have increased the bhp on the V70 diesel from 163 on the new 2.4D up to 185bhp on the new D5? Is it simply done by adding a superchip or tuning box or is there more to ir than that?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I would like to remind you that you are quoting 'Brake Horsepower'. Keep in mind that it is measured at the drive wheels.

Also most diesil drivers picked their car for the MPG as oppose to petrol heads who
generally are more interested in MPH and BHP.

I'm faily certain that a "performance label" diesil ( note how D5 makes you think of T5 ) won't get you milage that the old 2.5D does.

The exception to the rule are the grocklebox haulers ( caravaners ), who choose Diesils for pulling power/torque.
