I recently had the same problem. I tried everything I and several other people could think of to open it including prying it. Nothing would open the broken glove box. I finally brought it to the dealership which used a special tool and got it open in 30 seconds, and didn't charge me a dime.
Unfortunately, my unsuccessful attempts to open it had pushed the glove box back into the electrical cable that attaches to the airbag. The cable punctured the airbag and broke. I saved about $40-60 fixing the glove box latch myself after the dealership opened it for me, but it cost me over $500 to fix the airbag.
