Hi all Volvo V40 owners,
I have a problam with my car and I just wondered if anyone else has had
this problam ,
when I turn the ignition on the cars starts and the i rev it up to two thousand
revs ( to get the choke off ) then I went round the back of the car to see
if any lights had gone and I realised a big puff of smoke was coming out of the
back of it ( the smoke cloud just about filled the street with smoke ,
( the street only has 18 houses on it )
so please email me if you have more enquries on
[email protected]
thank you
Alex Howarth

he said that i had lots of serious problams with my car
I checked it out myself and i found nothing rong so then i took it to
another garage ( not a volvo ) and they said there was nothing rong!!!!
So watch out and does anyone still have the same problam

Excessive smoke comes from 1 of 2 problems.1 Blown headgasket. 2 Bad turbo charger.

Hi, I have just read your posting regarding your smokey V40 turbo. From my experience, smoking at start up could be caused by worn valve guide seals. Has your car traveled a high mileage?

Regards.

I just started having this problem. Large amount of light/blue smoke coming out of my exhaust while I am accelerating. No water in oil, or oil in radiator overflow. I also have a strong fuel smell coming from exhaust. Any thoughts on what this might be?

Light blue usually means oil.
Have your turbo checked.

I have took it to a garage recently and they said it was not
a bad turbo ,
They could not get an ECU ( Engine control unit )
reading ,
please help me sort this out I don't think I can Trust
Volvo garages anymore,
Thanks

Next you need to do is a compression test and leak down test to check for bad rings and valves.

If there is no communication with the ECM then the car will run really crappy.
It wont know how much fuel to use or anything like that.

The e.c.u ( engine control unit ) not
e.c.m

I have noticed that is has been flooding itself when it does not
start in the morning ,
and it has been using alot of fuel aswell,
its seriously weird
Thanks,
Alexander Howarth

ECU and ECM(Engine Control Module) are both the same things.
I forget exactly what was replaced and looked at lets try again.
Things that could flood it out and let it not start.
O2 sensor
Mass flow sensor
Coolant temp sensor
Bleeding down lifters
Bad coils
Bad fuel pressure regulator
Leaking fuel injectors

The volvo garage said the problam was leaking fuel injectors
and we have had them replaced ,
Thanks Alexander Howarth
