Brake Light Mystery

my brake lights work intermittently and I cannot figure out why. could it be the switch? when they don't work, the "check brake light" turns on.

when you replaced the bulbs, did they have a copper or silver base? You should only use silver base bulbs in your Volvo, as the copper base can cause problems. It is also a good idea to use the same manufacture for ALL the bulbs, i.e Osram, Wagner, Phillips etc., etc.

Also did you check the "bulb failure" relay behind the dash? Those will give false readings from time to time also.

ok i have a brake problem i have no brake lights i have replaced the bulbs,fuse, and the brake light switch under the sterring wheel. and still no lights and then had a tester put on everthing and the person said ther was no power getting to the back for the brake lights but i have tail lights and back up lights is there a rear brake switch or a relay switch or what is it 1995 volvo 940 turbo

Yes, there's also relay 7/75 - check it
