In the last few days, the transmission will not shift into 4th, at least when cold. So far, after driving for some time, it shifts and then everything works like normal. The transmission fluid is clear and full, the shift cable is not too tight. My hope is that this is the overdrive solenoid going bad, and not something worse. Has anyone else had this problem, or is there an easy way to test it?

The only thing you can do is safely put the car on ramps and check to make sure the solenoid is getting power. If not then it is probaly the overdrive relay.

Thanks, but after it started working again, I clicked the OD button about 10 times, and so far, everything is working again. An area person, suggested that I unplug the solenoid and test it with 12V. My main concern, with 140,000 on the car was a transmission rebuilt. Looks like I can finish my Christmas shopping!

I would unplug the solenoid and check for power there.I would not supply power there.
