Hey guys, I'm new here. Wish my first post wasn't a Help topic. Anyway, I'm from Houston I bought a 1981 245 last Friday. I actually left the owner a "Please Call when you want to Sell" tag on his almost 9 months ago. I finally got the call I was hoping for and now I own the car I fell in love with the second I saw it.

I filled the car up on Friday, and got through about 185 miles over the weekend and then today the car just died on the highway going about 60 mph. It gave no warning just died I coasted to the shoulder and tried to get it going. The car showed around 1/4 tank left in the gas tank but I put an additional 5 gallons thinking the sending unit was fried. Around 50 minutes after the car stopped It did start again ran idle fine with no miss. I was freaking so happy, then all of a sudden it died again, ran for around 1 min. It has not even acted like it wanted to start after sitting all day.

I got it home and looked at all of the fuses, all are intact.
I dissconnected the fuel filter and fuel was flowing fine through it.
I am getting good pressure in the fuel lines, pumping very well.
I took out one spark plug and turned it over and I do have spark.
I called the previous owner who has owned it for 21 years and he stated that this never happend before but one he had to get the Air Fuel mixture adjusted because it was hard starting and rough idle. But other than that he could not help.

Anyone have any suggestions, I really do not know where else to look.

The car is like I said an 1981 GLT non-Turbo 245K have had a new timming belt and new spark plugs, wires, disto. cap and rotor. Other than a noisy rear end I havent had any indication that anything was wrong with the car.

Thanks for the help ahead of time glad to be a new member of the Brick community.

PS, I kid you not, after the car was on the side of the road all day, when I came to pick it up tonight, I too had a "Will buy when your ready to sale tag on my windshield!!" My first weekend with the car. Got to Love our Volvo's. LOL

I pulled another spark plug and verified that I have spark. It is blue. I also verified that it is getting fuel to the injector.
I also went ahead and bought the fuel pump relay, put it in and still nothing. Like I said it has been dry cranks, then before it starts it grabs alittle, couple more cranks it starts and runs fine no stutter or miss. Then around 30-45 seconds later dies. This has only happend twice. And the last time it started was 7 hours ago. The previous owner did verify that nothing like this has ever happend in 21 years with the car.

Thanks again for the help. Looks like a v8 conversion on the horizon.
