I have 2003 xc90 T6 2.9l with turbos. The car was working perfect no stuttering that I could notice, then today after starting it, it started to shake a bit just like it was running on 5 cylinders and not taking it's gas, loss of power, I am able to accelerate even go up to 110 km but going up hill or putting the pedal down, not to much power ??? Just surprised that this has happened over night. Will need to take it to mechanic to try and figure out what is wrong in the next few days, but anybody have any idea ???

Got the car in november 2019 it has been running fine since then until this.

I don't have the special obd code reader for the volvo but can get my hands on a normal obd reader to get the basic codes if it will work.
thanks

it does sound like a coil pack has failed, a basic code reader will tell you misfire and cylinder number, but the trial and error method works too.

Well spent all afternoon on it, found all original volvo coils that had been marked from 1 - 6 in yellow, so not first time somebody is in.
The #4 was loose and lifted about 1/4 inch. Not too good. Checked the plug had carbon on it but seemed good almost new I would say. So decided to change the ignition coil and ... changed nothing even with the tubes for turbo half plugged in.
Did test test after putting in the new coil same, farts when you give it gas.
Unplugged cyl #3 and started the car, same results. Still has some vibration when it starts and shakes a bit and when I give it gas has the same sound.

So waiting tomorrow to put a Snap On scanner on it to see if there are really misfires or something else.

Talked to a friend and he had similar problem once and it was the fuel filter that was clogged lol

So without codes nowhere to go ... will keep posted

Went today at a local dealer that had a Snap On scanner with the Volvo pack installed it gave `minor codes with miss fire on #1 #2 and #3 !!!

On my way I saw that when the motor was pushing a bit the check engine was flashing. Indicates a spark problem of some sort.

He cleared the codes and I ran the car for about 15 minutes it did the same thing with the check engine lighting on and flashing when the motor was pushing a bit and the check engine stayed on.

Redid the scan twice after that no more miss fire ????

the #4 plug was covered with carbon but no oil or rusted. As part of small tune up I bought 6 spark plugs that I should install after supper.

Tomorrow going for garage that has a good reputation for handling Volvos and will see what happens.

was willing to try to buy and swap ignition coils but normal deduction does not work as I put new coil and unplug other and car ruins the same wich is shitty. Don't understand why and so does the car part guy, we're stomped.

Well just to finalize problem was the spark plugs that were finished mixed with one ignition coil.
Spark plug cleared 95% of the problem but there were a small vibration that was solved by the coil.
