Hi all, New to the forum and new to Volvos. My wife and I are thinking of purchasing a 2007 V7 2.4L (looks like the base model), 74k miles. The body and interior are in great shape, and the low miles makes this car an attractive option.

The one complaint that I've heard about this car is that it is under-powered. I think the powerplant tests at roughly 160 hp, which isn't much when lugging around a Volvo body. Anyone have any thoughts on how much of a problem this is? I'll be taking for a drive tomorrow, but I'd love to hear people's thoughts on the issue. My main concern about the power is on the interstates. We live in NYC and probably won't drive it around the city all that much. We want it to drive down to Baltimore, and upstate NY for camping etc. It would be nice if the car wasn't a liability when navigating I95.

Also, if anyone has any other comments or concerns, I'd love to hear about them.

Cheers

RGO

I have the 2000 V70 2.4l, on the motorway (uk ) it easily cruises at 70mph, and will hold 70 up most hills in top gear.
the 2000 version is the last year of the really heavy bodywork, after that they came down to standard thicknesses.
I think mine is the 140bhp version - mine now has 212,000 miles on it.
I have never had a problem with lack of power with mine, mine is manual gears, but I have owned the automatic version (the 1996 850) and used that for towing a caravan with once again no issues.

It will be plenty of car for you and your family, I know it served me well and I wasn't kind to it at all. Very comfortable car and drove very nice, I had close to about 230K miles on it when I was done with it and it was still running no problems what so ever. Not sure if you ended up buying it but it wouldn't hurt to check autotrader.com, cargurus, cars.com or autolist.com for price comparisons in your area, as I noticed the prices where different depending on what area of the country you're in (hence why I traveled to North Carolina for mine).

Good luck with your search/ purchase, the V70 is a great platform.

Past ownership is everthing. 75k with bad maintenance and rough owner is often worse than 250k with a good owner
