Hi

Just started my 2011 XC60 D3 2.0, made an odd whining noise initially. Then when I switched off the engine it sounded as though the starter motor was still ticking over (may well not be the starter motor, just an uninformed guess). Tried switching the engine on and then off a few times and it was still ticking over. Left it running and then there was a burning smell. Switched off and nothing is still running now. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

I took a video to capture the noise the engine was making once the ignition had been switched off, here's the link: Starter issue

Thanks

Are you sure it isn't the Fan running to cool the water in the Radiator ?

No, definitely starter motor. Seems it's not disengaging.

check the wiring on the solenoid on top of the starter and clean it and clean the contacts on your starter holding the wiring may be wet.
