Hi Volvophiles!
As a new member forgive me if I am asking something which has been asked before. I have a 1999 C70 sedan, burnt orange (is that the same as "saffron"?) Had it for 10 years this year. Love it despite its rattles from the glove box. I have had many Volvos in the past: several 240 series, and one gorgeous 1966 P1800 I restored (white) and I miss til this day. But my question has to do with the C70. I was told some time ago that this model (or maybe it was only this colour?) had a very limited production. In fact he told me that Volvo manufactured only 1000 a year of the C70 from 1997 through 2002 when the style changed from beautiful to ugly along with the acquisition by Ford, I believe.
Anyway, I have always believed this to be so, but have just been told that in fact the number of C70's rolling off the ine was far in exxcess of 5,000.
Any comments?

I was looking up production numbers the other day and they have always been very low, but not quite as low as 1000 per year for all C70s. It’s possible that maybe there were that few C70 hardtops some of the years, but the overall C70 line has usually been at least 5000 a year (and I think that’s just the US figure. In the press release announcing the retractable hardtop version, they said they planned to double production to 18,000 a year, which would imply they were in the neighborhood of 8-10k a year before that. But I don’t think they ever actually hit that target. The C70 remained a very rare car even in the last generation. By comparison, Volvo’s more popular models sell in the hundreds of thousands globally, and even there the overall brand sales volume is tiny compared to many other automakers.
