The lifters were recently adjusted in the B20. It was left overnight to get a good cold soak and then the lifters were adjusted to the specified .016" for both the inlet and exhaust. It runs well and seems to have adequate power but the valvetrain is very noisy.

Should I just live with it or reduce the clearance to something less than the .016"?

The odometer shows 109,000 but that is not documented and could be anything.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

They are "solid" lifters so there will be noise, be sure that your oil has the appropriate zinc additives for a flat tappet cam. I did find a "tighter" rocker shaft assembly that reduced the noise a bit. As long as there isn't anything wrong (cam not worn, correct oil, rockers adjusted), you could put a cast aluminum valve cover on it to quiet it down.

142R,

Thanks for the response. I was not aware of the zinc oil additive. and I like the suggestion of the cast aluminum valve cover.
