Has anyone installed this ipod adaptor that ipd is selling: link here on a SC-816 factory headunit commonly installed on the S70?

Specifically I'm interested in two things related to ease of use. First, ipd claims you can navigate the ipod's playlist using the radio's controls but since the song text couldn't possible come through on a SC-816 I can imagine getting lost sifting through even a few GB of songs...any comments on this. And second, if the first question is an issue how have others dealt with this...have you installed some kind of mounting bracked and just controlled the ipod directly?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I am using a BlitzSafe Ipod adapter, however you cannot navigate through your songs using the Headunit. You have to use the Ipod itsself. The volume is the only thing that is controlled by the Headunit.

Are you using the CD changer input with the Blitzsafe? The website I went to says you need RCA jacks for that device.

I installed the IPD Ipod adapter on an HU650. IPD's "how to" install DVD is worth the price of admission. It is very clear and accurate. Their customer support is great. It's a fairly straight forward install. I decided to put my adapter on the rear wall of my glove box. The wire from the adapter to the Ipod loops over the back of the glove box. The Ipod sits in the glove box. Others have put the adapter under the passenger seat or in the center console (behind the shift lever). The Ipod ends up in the arm rest after some drilling. These placement options seemed like a lot of work.

The din fitting from the adapter plugs into the din receptical nearest to the passendger side on the rear of your HU (the one for the CD changer). The power can come off the red wire that is part of one of the harnesses that plugs into the radio or you can get an adapter from Volvo ($18-$23) the plugs into the radio that will give you a switched power lead if you do not want to mess with the original wiring. I ran the ground to a grounding post onthe side wall, under the carpetting, by the lower hinge side of the passenger door. That's it. (see also Swedespeed forums for many other mounting and installation (with photos) examples, including the one that I just described). The hardest part was getting the HU back into the dash. There is not a lot of room for all the wires that are behind the HU.

You could also run the wire from the Ipod adapter to the Ipod to the front of the dash. ProClip makes holders that will not mar your dash and do a great job of providing a place for the Ipod at arms length from the driver.

The steering wheel controls allow you to move from one song to the next. The volume control works. The Ipod's wheel is fully functional.

On Swedespeed, see also MrEd's thread on a new adapter that he is/has created.

Good luck
Ozzie
