For interested folk, here are some numberplates

Europlates that can be customised. Authentic imported euro plates. Blue left band with S (Sweden). These plates are stamped.

Also available here new, swedish flag instead of standard euro stars

Probably the cheapest but the plates are not stamped (letters are not raised)

Hi there

Good question.

I looked up the Transport Act.

http://www.legislation.govt.nz/

and found this.

Section 14
(3)The Minister may from time to time, by notice in the Gazette, prescribe
various fees payable in respect of the issue of registration plates and
licences to cover the cost of production and issue of the plates and
licences; and may if the costs so warrant it, prescribe higher fees in
respect of the production and issue of personalised registration plates.

Sounds to me like if the lettering is not personalised, then it is not
subjected to the premium under Section 14.3?

Also nothing in the Act prohibiting anyone from sourcing their own
non-personalised plates for use on their vehicle.

Grey area here, does anyone care? Don't know.

Then you would think we would see industries springing up supplying plates or then again is NZ population too small?

What I have seen around Auckland is a few people sourcing their own Euro D (German) plates. So far I have seen them on a Mercedes and a VW.
