Hello all!

This is my first post, and it regards my 1984 volvo 240 turbo. It is my first car ever and i really love it, I just wanted to hear your opinions about something.

after my first two tanks i calculated the gas mileage i am getting, which is very important considering the high cost of gas these days. My mileage was:

675 km
travelled on 96.5 L of gas

so I am getting 6.99 km per litre

or

14.28 litres per 100 km

Is this resonable for this kind of car. The car is in good shape, i had a bit of work done, and it only has 157,000 km on it.

any comments would be great, I would be curious to hear how much gas mileage others get too.

Thanks so much for the Help!
Tim

Man, metric. I average around 30 mpg in my '87 245 DL manual - a little more on the highway, a little less in town. No idea what the conversion is.

Is that petrol usage around town? 14l/100km is reasonable. It's a heavy car!

Hi guys,

I drove 350 miles each way on a trip this past weekend (August 5 & 6) from Chicago to southern Indiana in 90+ F weather at 80 mph with A/C running.

Gas usage was ~ 22 mpg (miles per US gallon) using 87 Octane gasoline. That's about 11 liters per 100 km) - not bad at all. This was for a non-turbo 1989 DL sedan in fairly good shape.

Using the fuel consumption qball quoted (14.28 l per 100 km) the conversion is as follows:

To do the conversion from liters per 100 km to mpg (USA gallon) is as follows:

Example: 14.28 liters per 100 km converts to __ ? __ mpg

235.189 / 14.28 liters per 100 km = __ ? __ mpg

Answer is: 16.47 mpg (seems to be consuming a bit too much gas)

To do the conversion from mpg (USA gallon) to liters per 100 km is as follows:

Example: 16.47 mpg converts to ? liters per 100 km

235.189 / 16.47 mpg = __ ? __ liters per 100 km

Answer is: 14.28 liters per 100 km

NOTE: The above is for USA gallons not Imperial gallons.

Thanks guys for the input. the math done in the post above is correct. The driving i did was in town and not on the highway.

I have been having some general problems which all point to the fuel pump: hard starts in the warm weather, gas smell on start-up and the poor mileage. it is at the shop right now, when it all gets fixed up i will update you with any changes to the mileage.

thanks again
Tim
