I have an 05 v50 with 26K miles...i get a grinding noise over bumps...don't have to be big ones from the rear passenger side...could be shocks? or something else...i have driven with loaded cargo area or empty...have lifted the cargo cover and tighened the styrofoam liner...have stuffed stuff in that hold and shut the top tight...don't know what it could be...yes the gas cap is closed. thanks

I have a very similar car and I have just recently noticed a scraping noise from the rear passenger side (i'm in the UK so thats rear left). When I investigated I noticed that the rear brake caliper appears to be resting on the brake disc and must be causing the noise. It appears to have actually damaged the disc. I will have to contact Volvo next week. It would be interesting to know if this is the same as you, as this could point to a manufacturing fault. BTW mine is 05 V50 2.0 diesel with 16k miles.
