Hi All

I am a new member and would be greatly interested in others' experiences. My new V50 T5 battles to start on the first couple of turns in the morning. The dealer chekced it out yesterday, concluded that there was a possible software problem and downloaded the latest upgrades, but this morning it did the same thing. It either doesn't take on the first attempt or partially takes and splutters at 200-300 rpm and dies. A related concern is that one inevitably gives a bit of fuel when this happens and so when it does take it revs hard and this can't be good for an ice cold motor or for the turbo.

Any similar experiences and advice?

Thanks

Sounds familiar Mach1.
I Bought my T5 with about 30k miles on it and have been experiencing the starting issues as well. More so if I have not driven the car for a day or so. It is summer time here so the temp doesn't seem to be the issue. Anyway, I have not yet brought it in but will let you know the diagnosis I get when I do.

Hi - new member here, looking for info/advice on exactly the starting problem you have mentioned.

I've had my V50 2.4 Auto for about 2years now, and it has just begun to have intermittent starting problems, following the 36K service (coincidence....maybe??).

It occaisionally splutters and dies when starting, other times it turns over&over but won't 'fire' - this can go on for a minute or so and then it suddenly fires up OK. Turn it off and it immediately starts Ok again!! The weather here is not particulrly cold at the moment - quite humid infact, so I don't think that is the problem.

Seems to happen more when the car has been stood for a while after a journey. Planning to take to a dealer in the next week or so, but worried they won't experience the problem, because it is so intermittent.

A colleague mentioned he had similar problems with a V70 which turned out to be a faulty security aerial(?) which validates the key fob against the car.......

Any ideas????

Sparkymark.

I also have the starting up issue with my T5. However since the weather is has turned a little colder here in the No. East of the US it has seemingly disappeared. A definite factor is not driving the car for a while!!

We;ll see what my dealer says...

I had this too but read the suggestion that I was inserting the key too quickly and turning to start. Wait a second or two so the key is recognized by the car. Works every time now.

Hey guys,

I have a S40 T5 essentially the same engine...

I had the cold start problem that many have had. It came and went many times. Weather was definitely a factor I think. I have read a lot about it but no answer until few months ago. I took the car to the dealer for a recall of some Teflon gas line replacement and some other maintenance and I talked to him about this. They have a software upgrade that they tried and since I haven't had any starting problems.

They were not sure if the two were related; change of the gas line and software upgrade, but so far so good...

They also kept the car over night to let things cool and gave me a lowner car. They have been very helpfull and quite nice so far. I'm happy with the service people. A good team.

(I believe the gas line had to do with being too close to the Turbo and burning fuel in the line generating some gas residue that may create some starting issue when the car was sitting for a while in addition to the gas burning smell . They replaced the line with a Teflon coated line isolating against gas burning. I'm not sure of all this...)

I hope this helps. :57:

Greg
