Hello! I'm new here. Found you all via google. :] I am in a bit of a pickle. I am on my second beloved Volvo. I purchased this one about a year and a half ago in Brooklyn (where I live). Given the state of the BQE (Brooklyn/Queen's Expressway) my 30+ year old car has taken a beating.

I took her into the shop after noticing a noise. The guy I went to said he'd fix her for more but I'd have to find the parts, as he's way too busy to do so for me. Thing is, I can't seem to find any. Granted, I am not sure where to begin. I have checked Ebay and a little in Craigslist. I haven't had much luck. I realize that the car is old and it might take some time, but I can't help but wonder if it's merely my lack of knowledge stopping me from finding a place that might have the parts on hand.

If anyone has any suggestions as to where I might look, that would be great. I'd much appreciate any help and/or leads.

Oh, and I need upper ball joints and lower and an engine pipe. (Although, the pipe can wait. The ball joints are the immediate need.)

I really would rather not have to sell the car only to watch someone dismember it.

Good Morning IPD has ball joints for the 164. Try them at www.ipdusa.com.

Good Luck.

New member here, first post. I too found this site through Google. I'm the original owner of a '75 164E. Bought in Portland, OR. $7500. 135,000 miles

Mine's all original except for the leather upholstery which was locally replaced with heavy black vinyl a few years ago, identical pattern. Badly needs a paint job, faded and thin on the hood, horse teeth scratches on the trunk, one small trailer dent on the right from hauling it across country in 1993. Still have the original unused spare tire in the trunk, the Michelin WW size that's been unavailable for years.

A couple of years ago, the fuel injectors needed to be replaced, the local dealer* parts guy said he just couldn't find 'em. A quick search using Google turned up a couple of sites, in Europe, bought the injectors from one & the dealer installed them. Runs like new ever since. http://www.gcp.se/default.asp?Language=en and http://www.volvoworld.com/164/toc.htm were the sites, I forget which one I used, probably the Volvo World.

Last month I put Washington Collector Vehicle plates on the car. The vehicle has to be 30 years old.

*A real find for me, their current shop foreman was a 164 mechanic in his early days and said, anyway, that he really liked working on mine. The dealers I used in the Fort Worth area (several, long since out of business) were just barely competent....
