Hi, I have a Sept 2005 V50 2.0D SE which I bought for my wife in Jan 06 (ex demo model). It's an Irish spec car and we have had it back to the dealer 3 times in 6 months.
I notice that many other drivers have also experienced the AC suddenly blowing hot air when the clim control is set to 20 deg C. The dashboard has now started to display multiple error messages which have puzzled the mechanics at the main dealers.
The dashboard displayed the following error messages:
• Error message – “SRS airbag fault, stop car safely”;
• Error message – “ABS brake failure, stop car safely”;
• Error message – “seatbelt fault, stop car safely”;
• Handbrake signal flashed on & off continuously;
This week the volvo garage have replace an "EGR" valve which they claim was defunct and would have caused some of the error messages relating to the ABS but there is still no explanation for the other messages and the engine mamgement system has not logged these messages. Thankfully, so far, these messages have not manifested into physical breakdowns or failures and seem confined to the dashboard.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

Well yesterday July 31st the Volvo dealer returned our car and told us that he was confident that the EGR valve replacement plus some software updrades which were uploaded to the car's EMS, would now solve all our previous problems.
I do not share his confidence but we will have to wait and see the outcome.

By the way, reading some other member's posts I was reminded of our Air-con problem which causes the climate control to blow hot air on drivers side whilst cool air on the passanger side. I am informed that this can be rectified with another software uploade which takes 2 hours. Seems like our car is going to spend some more time at the dealer's - I am starting to regret this investment!!

I did have similar problems on my previous V50 2.0D SE after I had it serviced. The dealrer sorted it out after having it in the shop for a week. It seemed that an EMS upgrade had been applied but had failed so it caused all sorts of issues - hopefully the new software patches they put on will sort your issues out.

Hi obrien, I have a one-week-old V50 (and no problems so far, which is more than what I could say from my previous car, a VW Passat).

As we are both based in Ireland, would you mention who is your dealer? I bought mine from Koping Motors, and I have found that the standard to which the vehicle was prepared was way ahead than my previous Volvo (a V40 bought also new from Tom Canavan Motors). The first service will tell...

Many times the expertise of the garage makes a huge difference in the whole ownership experience.

hi. i'm fabio from rome, italy.
i have just picked up my car (the same of yours) from the 20.000km ispection and i have had almost the same problems you got with your one.
volvo technicians, had installed several new software version and not it seems to run with no problems at all.
they said it was due to software probles, nothing really serius.
i had to say also that each time i got something strange, like error messaging or electronics malfunctions, they desappeard just turning of the engine and starting up again.
so don't worry and enjoy your car.
for further email me to:
fabio_carnicchia@fatwebnet.it

ciao and best wishes :beer:

Hello,

i had almost the same problems (and more !)

finally it turned out thad the connectors in the A-style started oxidating causing those problems...

Replacing those connectors with gold plated ones solved all the problems.
