Hi All,

Just wanted to ask if it is a smarter move to take your car back to the dealer for service, or just to have it serviced elsewhere. I've heard the Volvo is quite expensive. I bought extended warranty up to 60000 miles, but didn't know that regular service is separate above 30000 miles covered. I have about 43000 miles on my S40 at the moment.

Please advise.

Matt

I think it really boils down to if u trust your dealer or not, and/or if u can find a garage u trust more.

Personally, a friend of mine is a Volvo mechanic, so I go to the him.

I agree with s60R, but also I think that if you get it serviced through volvo while it is under warranty, then there wont be any issue when you make a warranty claim. Over here, getting manufacturer services also seems to improve the resale price on cars, or at least make them easier to sell. People are always worried about "backyard jobs" particularly with euro cars that can be expensive to repair. You do get hit between the eyes on the cost, though, especially for the oil on the T5 or R - it costs me over $100 just for the synthetic oil in mine, when a normal oil would cost $40 or so.
