I did change the battery in March and ever since then have not been able to get it inspected..THe volvo dealer said they can do a diagnostic test on it but will not solve the problem and at 78 bucks an hour they can kiss my (_l_) Anyways...any help on this matter would be of great appreciation :)

:cat: Hi there Patti. :00000732: to Volvo forums.

:liebe011: for joining us.

Sorry to sound boring-but what exactly do you need help with? If you turn down help from the only person in the village who knows your car-you might be a bit too far away from us too.

You might like to use the appropriate forum to list what exactly you need help with.

Cheers :right:

Hi there again ...I just wanted to let u know more specifically what is going on with my 97 S90....I changed the battery ...went to get it inspected in April and the mechanic said there are 5 errors in the computer that has to be reset..So he suggested to drive the vehicle put at least 200 miles on it ..which I have put at least 600 miles and still the same errors on the computer. They can't inspect it of course (emissions). Any help would be appreciated it. Ther service light engine comes on upon the start-up... I am at my wits end over this and am so ready to trade it in lol but I love my Volvo:) Any suggestions would be appreciated:)

Hi Patti,
Welcome to the forum. Being you said they wanted to charge you $78 per hour you took the car to Bill Gray Volvo. Rahal in Wexford charges $83 per hour just to let you know. There are a few good independent Volvo mechanics in Pittsburgh.
I take my 87 745T and my 97 960 up to Horne Welding (412-882-9060) on Nobles Lane in Overbrook off 51S. There are a few Volvo techs that moon light there. They're not going to charge you anywhere close to $78 to look at the car. I will warn you it is a hole in the wall type of shop. But they have a good reputation and they are constantly busy with work due to their prices.
There is also Morrones on Painters Run off Bower Hill Rd. I have never used them but I have never heard anything bad about them either.

Patti I saw the same question answered on another forum.

First, the article (I found it), from "The Volvo Experience" newsletter, states that after a "battery disconnect", your system might not become "ready" if (1) the vehicle is driven only for short trips of less than 20 minutes, or (2) driven only on the highway without prolonged periods of engine idle such as standing at a stop light, among other things.

Anyway, you can make it "ready" by following this regimen:

Step 1: Accelerate from 0-50 mph in less than 30 seconds.

Step 2: Drive wth steady throttle between 45-50 mph for at least 20 minutes. Do not use Cruise Control.

Step 3: Stop car, put shift in Park, turn off A/C, and continue idling for at least 5 minutes.

Step 4: Accelerate again from 0-50 mph in less than 30 seconds.

Step 5: Drive wth steady throttle between 45-50 mph for at least 20 minutes. Do not use Cruise Control.

Step 6: Stop and shut off the car. Allow to cool down for at least 30 minutes.

You may have to repeat this a second time -- if so, adhere to all particulars.

Good luck.
