Frequently, our 2002 Volvo S80 will not start as the battery is dead. We have had the battery checked and was told it was good. However, something seems to be draining the battery. Does anyone have ideas on the possible cause of the drain? Also, the first time the battery died, it was jumped from the battery rather than the connection points in the engine compartment (Under the hood). Could we have mess something up in the electrical system in connecting directly to the battery in jump starting the vehicle?

Check the switches. Especially those hidden from the naked eyes, like the glove-box switches etc. If they are bad, the lights go on all night.

No, it won't mess it up by jumping it from the battery, in fact it's actually better to do it that way. Do you KNOW that the battery is dead? OR does it just have such a high resistance in the cables that it can't carry the current to the starter that is neccessary. Check all your connections and make sure there is no corrossion, knicks, or cuts in the cables, ect... The best way is to test potentional voltage + post and - post. Then test the positive under the hood to a relative ground, and if the voltage is significantly lower, it's most likely your battery cable. good luck!
