I have a 1999 S80 2.9 with 256,000K on it.Runs like a charm.
I had it in to have the transmission fluid and filter changed.The tech dropped the pan and found large pieces of the clutch plates in it.They road tested it and said everything still seems to be working fine but recommend i have it rebuilt before major damage happens.repair estimated at $1000,anyone have any idea how long these trannys last?

At 256,000k's, I'd say you have had a fairly good run from the gearbox. :clap:

Some people do better than others with gearboxes, but I'm not really telling you much that you don't already know. Also, if it is seven years old-I would not demand too much from anything on the car.

$1,000.00 sounds very cheap for a reconditioned gearbox. Grab it before he works out he just quoted it at a lose!! :)
