i recently had an oil change done on my car and when I got it back it was idling very strongly and unevenly. it won't die when this happens, just continues to idle strangley. also, when I accelerate, even floor it, it seems to respond normally but I can still feel the car shaking and the acceleration goes up and down. I dont get it. Whats wrong with my car. Thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. It's a 1990 740 Turbo intercooler wagon with 221,200k miles

did they do anything else to the car? it seems odd for that to be after the oil change...are they reputable? did you change oils, or go to a synthetic from a standard? nothing happened afterwards, no potholes or anything...

did they do anything else to the car? no, just the oil and filter change

it seems odd for that to be after the oil change...are they reputable?
it's a jiffy lube, everyone I know goes there

did you change oils, or go to a synthetic from a standard? no new type of oil

nothing happened afterwards, no potholes or anything...
problem started right in the parking lot, before I drove it anywhere

Check the oil filter and look to see if it's the original one of the imitation one.

Otherwise, maybe one of the mechanics accidentally did something (by accident meant unintentional and unrealised)...

Hope your car is back in good health. I saw this post and it reminded me of taking my 74 Volvo 145 to Jiffy Lube in 1989. I pulled out of the parking lot and it was running terribly -- it hadn't when I went in. If I remember correctly, one of the guys knocked the wire off of the spark plug (don't know why or how). I saw it, and it ran fine. (Well, for a few days. It died on the highway in the middle of the night 4 days later, but that wasn't Jiffy Lube's fault!)
Good luck!

Check the oil isnt overfull!

Oil could be getting sucked up through the crankcase vent.

It is really strange for this to happen after just an oil change. Check there is no connectors unplugged especially around the oil filter side of the engine.

If the garage is unreputable in any way they may have done something to the car so you take it back for more work. Dont mean to worry you.

Does the car start fine?
Is it as powerfull as it was before?
Are you definately sure they didnt do any other work to the car? Even if it was to tweak the emissions if they thought it needed it.
