Hi, I just recently chiptuned my 850 T5R, but can't get enough turbo pressure. I have now read a lot about this and it seems that by turning the Wastegate Actuator Rod about 3 turns, may help.

The prssure is only about 0.7 barand should be up towards 1 bar.

Does anyone have any more info on this?

I also tried to find out if Volvo has a new Wastegate, in case this itself has become too loose in the spring inside. But no luck...

John Inge

don't mess with your wastegate...

if you want to go cheap..

get a manual or electronic boost controller.

I'm more to say that disturbing the wastegate should only be done if you are a tuner.

Well, it will be the tuner that will perform the turning of the actuator rod, first one or two times. But I want to make sure that if I try to order a new Wastegate, that this is really necessary...

That being said, I still haven't found this Wastegate part in the Volvo system, found a part number, but it was not active anymore at Volvo dealers.

So I am now hoping that my tuner will be able to order this from somewhere in the UK, but I wonder if anyone knows what a Wastegate will cost?

I found my turbo in this list:
http://swededemon.com/turbo/turbolist.html

15G - B5234T 225hk/B5234T5 240hk 1996, straight outlet form turbine.

It's a Volvo 850 T5R 1996.

I have been reading a lot about different hoses that very often need to be checked or changed, but can't find any real How-To pages for checking this.

Lots of people with good knowledge, but few that are very detailed in explaing things :-) To us that are better behind a computer than in the engine room :-)

Even if doing changes should be up to professionals, we should be able to check simple things as hoses :-)

Well, then pray hard, your tuner won't screw it!

Which hoses are you referring to?
Water-coolant hoses or air or vacuum-hoses?

For water-coolant hoses, go through all of them and look for signs of water/coolant stains that have dried up. Maybe difficult given that the rubber hoses are dark in colour, and the fact that the bottom radiator hose is well-hidden. The rule of thumb is that, if they are all still original, then if one gives way, replace ALL of them. As the others would also fail soon.

There are 5 water hoses in total:-
1) Small hose that connects the expansion tank to the back of the engine block.
2) A 5-inch hose at the back of the engine block.
3) A big bottom hose that goes to the radiator.
4) A relatively big hose from the top of the radiator to the thermostat.
5) Small hose from thermostat to the expansion tank again.

(SOMEONE PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I MISS ANY)

As for the vaccum-hose, well start from the vacuum tree... All hoses connected here are non-water hoses.

As for the air-hoses, start from the air-filter box.

Vacuum and air hoses are slightly more difficult to check for leaks. At this age, I have changed all my vacuum hoses into silicone for longer-lasting... Price is OK, as well. You could perform the normal water-leak checks, but then make sure you dry them properly before fitting them again. :)

you should check out the Turbo Performance Club. Pretty great site for the Western Euro Guys.
