:00000732:
Hello Everyone... :-), can't seem to find where i should post this, so here goes...

I've got a '00 Volvo C70 2.0LPT, with ECU problems.
I've brought it to the Volvo Main Dealer, who reckons it may have been chiped or otherwise interfeered with, and reckons they cant read the ECU. There saying that i need a new ecu at the cost of hundreds of pouunds, just wondering if there is anything else i could be trying first..... Any help would be great... as i only have the car 5 days

Well, I guess...

1- Is it out of warranty?
2- Can u determine if the ECU was actually modded? If it was, that might void whatever warranty there was.

well sounds like you have had some bad luck!!

firstly if you have had the car 5 days was it from a dealer or private ?
if it was a dealer go back to them and kick up a fuss (you know this bit)

if it was private try getting hold of the guy you brought it from and find out if it had been modded surely he wold know!!!!

before you spend too much money with the local volvo dealer try taking it to a specialist in ecus etc just for a scan etc.
what is the problem with the car? if it is running badly or something like that ok but if it is fine i dont think i would go and get a new ecu!!!
it could be it has been chipped or something like that and the volov special code reader is no longer able to read it but that does not mean that it is broken!!

i know since i had mt BSR remap the OBD cab be a little weird about if the car starts with it plugged in ( on my car pc) but it is nowt to write home about

good luck

Volvo of America is currently undergoing a lawsuit regarding ETS units in the United States. They have sent out letters stating the there could possibly be refunded money and upgrades needed to be done. Go back to the dealer and make a issue out of it. Search online for Volvo+ECU or ECM problems. You do have to be sure you unit has not been tampered with. Let them know you are aware of the issue all over the globe!! Then again I believe the ECU is not a part of the electronic throttle system, or maybe it is?

you could always try taking it to a performance shop - they might know what is likely to have been done, so that they know what to look for. I had a new program put into my ECU, rather than upgrading the chip - it could be that this was done.
