Hello all,

My wife and I are in the process of buying a 2001 S60 T-5 from a local wholesale dealer. My question to all of you is this car has 126K miles on it, it looks like it has 26K miles on it. But, it has service records etc. and everything looks pretty good. I have never owned a Volvo and would like your thoughts or concerns that I need to be aware of. The price is amazing ($8000) so I wonder what the problem is?

Hi,

I live in Wichita and I just bought an 01 S60 (not a turbo) for about the same amount. Mine had 77k miles.

The obvious first question is: Does it have a clean title? Non-highway? Salvage? These will cut the value in half at least.

Second has the timing belt been changed? The manual recommends changing it at 105K miles. From what I've read it's at least $500 to have done at the dealership.

Finally, I'm learning real fast that both service and parts are very expensive on these cars so keep that in mind as well.

Read this forum well, there are definitely common themes through out. I was a Toyota owner and I'm not used to these little (and not so little) problems.

Good luck!

I also have a 2001 T5 and it is a great car to drive.

For that mileage and on that model, check if the ETM was replaced, this can cause you a lot of driving problems and money to replace. Otherwise, check the mounts and front end rubbers.

Could just be a good deal. It happens. ;)

I bought a 2001 S60 T5 a couple of months ago with 95k miles for $9600. Got the carfax report and had a Bosch mechanic check it out. No surprises on either one, and the car has been nothing but great so far.
