WOW!

Look at the debris,... Musthave rolled like a zillion times...

If those at the back (gold blanket) were the survivors, they were lucky!

Yeah, dude...

But sometimes, there's only so much 'equipments' could do to help you save yourself or minimise your injuries...

As long as the fatalities toll remains lower compared.

Made me think...a few years back an SUV with mom and two kids straped into cars seats was t-boned. Mom had no seatbelt on, SUV rolled bunch of times, mom gets ejected. Kids were screaming and crying, not because they were hurt, but because they thought mommy "jumped out and left them". SUV came to rest on its roof, and kids were unhurt, upside-down in their car seats until passers-by got them out.

A couple of years back whilst out on the motorbike i came accross a q of traffic out in the middle of the country. Filtering down the line of traffic i see the blue lights then the accident. A small hatchback had flipped and rolled on the grass verge. the driver, not belted, had been thrown from the car and was lying on the side of the road. Think he has alive as paramedics were giving him attention but not sure what state he was in. Been on the bike there was enough room for me to squeeze past the ambulance in the middle of the road (policeman waved me through) then i saw it..... a child seat in the middle of the road, also not secured in the vehicle but from what i can make out, un occupied!

Its my lasting memory of this incident, the thought of what could have been. The old advertising campaign in the UK used to be "clunk click every trip", but even with the seatbelt laws in the UK which have been around for so many years now there is a section of the population who believe it does not apply to them.

What the hell are they thinking of!

Do you think people that drive like total lunatics / drink drivers should be charged for attemped murder rather than DUI / driving without due care?

It's astounding how many lifes are wrecked by someones moment of stupidity / showing off.

Answering Stu' query:

After losing a friend and another person whom i know of, to drink-drivers, i believed they should at least be charged of something lesser than murder, but definitely NOT just the fine and the 48-hour lockup.

Seems like the law is as stupid as the drunk.

I remembered reading in the papers before: Something like a mom lost her life while returning home from work at close to midnight, her kids will never be able to see mom again, the bloody guy got a fine and 48hours in lockup. BTW, since the kids' dad passed away a few years before, the kids were handed over to the orphanage!

All because the drunkdriver was not in a "right state of mind" in the first time. My @rse!

I cant imagine if it were to happen to my family and me.
:(

A couple of months back in Birmingham, a guy was on his way to meet his wife and baby daughter at Mac Donalds for his lunch hour.

He was waiting in traffic when a yellow impreza that was travelling in the opposite direction on the duel carridgeway landed on top of his VW Golf.

The impreza driver had lost control at 90MPH+!!!!! in a 40MPH zone, mounted the central reservation and went airborne before landing on the Golf and killing the innocent new family man instantly.

Impreza driver tried to flee the scene, but was chased and caught by some of the other motorists.

You can be the most carefull driver in the world, it only takes one **** to wreck everything, for you or your loved ones.

I suppose attempted murder would have to be a pre-meditated killing that failed.

Attempted man-slaughter on the other hand would fit the bill.

Stu.

My wife's cousin's brother-in-law (wow) was drunk one night driving a new Corvette over 100 mph, and rear ended some family guy just driving home and killed him. I think he got 7 years in prison, and is still in a work release program that allows him to go to work (not driving) and return to a half-way house after work.

One night (when he was still in prison) my wife's cousin starts talking about how hard this has been for her brother-in-laws family, going to see him in prison. When it got quiet, I said loudly, "at least they get to see their father. He wil be out one day. This family has to go to a grave to see their father. Just be happy he is alive". It still amazes me how they dont see the big picture.

The DUI laws recently changed, lowering the limit from .10 to .08 The grading is also more severe the higher your BAC is, and if you have prior arrests. It can range from 60 days to five years. If u get bored, read this....
http://www.dot10.state.pa.us/pdotforms/veh...075%203802'

To answer Stu's question, in Pennsylvania (as all states) there are also charges like homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while DUI, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI.

Here is a site I found: http://www.carbuyingtips.com/disaster.htm
It's hard to believe some of these people lived to tell the tale. And one of the last one is a Volvo Convertible. Notice which car is upside down.

Laws in Australia are similarly (and appropriately) severe. Drink driving is a criminal offence, even if you just get random breath tested. BAC limit is 0.05. You can get many years in prison for 'reckless driving occasioning death' if you kill somone while breaking ANY road rules. Our biggest problems on the roads at the moment is pedestrians, particularly around schools.

We also have a 'double demerit' points system for long weekends and heavy traffic periods that means you can lose your license instantly for speeding 15km/h over and not wearing a seatbelt. It has reduced our roadtolls immensely.
