Hello:

I have just bought new V50 T5 with premium and audio package. 2 days after purchase, when I turned the ignition, AC started blowing hot air on the driver side and cold air on passenger's. Auto climate control was ON with temperature set @ 68 on both sides and it was 90+ degrees outside. I played with controls a bit and after raising the temperature up to MAX on the drivers site, the climate control kicked in.

The same situation repeated itself 2- 3 times, and yet again several days later- every time fixed with the same trick as above, while mostly working otherwise.

Any words of wisdom?

Thanks.

eugalpin,

Not sure what is up with yours, but I have noticed something similar. On my 2005 V50, I have loss of AC in the summer (I can randomly start it by fiddling with the defrost (but this is not consistent) where the air blows HOT (like the computer is confused and providing heat instead of AC). It did this last year, they put in new software and now it is happening again. I would love to understand the cause of this. Has ayone else seen it?

Thanks.

I have had a similar problem, but with different temperature right-left. When I set the temp exactly the same it differs in blow and in air temp. It got a little better with software update from volvo service.

Another AC related thing, I have a T5 and I really feel the difference in engine power with the AC on. Quite often the car becomes weaker and kinda lags when I push the pedal. Its very irritating when you drive in the city.

They have tried to fix it at service, but i feel no difference.

Not sure if this is gonna help or not. I have a V50 T5 2005 and I have noticed weird behaviour with the radio, it did not behave normally in regards to some of the controls especially under the "Auto" option.

Therefore, I brought the car to dealer who told me there was a software upgrade which should fix the issue. The upgrade included fixes for the climate control as well and I have noticed a change in how and when the air is being blown after the upgrade.

Maybe it is worth to check with your dealer regarding any software upgrade which involves the climate control unit.

Cheers, Rasculatul

I have a 2006 T-5 AWD and when the temp is lowest, air conditioning off, I get the hottest air. Dealer did software upgrade which made it worse. Now I have called 3 dealers to ask about similar problems (Note, your work orders are viewable to any dealer online, if they are "closed" by the dealer doing work")

Other dealers say that there is a problem with 4 motors and 5 sensors from time to time that control interior HVAC. Requires pulling the dashboard. Some parts are hard to get. Will have car in for 3rd time next week.

This is a common problem for S40/V50. I had the same problem at my V50 2006 and my dealer fixed it last summer with a program update. The dealers in Athens - Greece are familiar with this problem and of course the update comes from Sweden. So press your dealers to have the latest update which solves this disfunction. At another forum I found a technical answer:

"I[I][COLOR=blue] have had to fix several cars with this symptom. The problem is documented in the TNNs, so either your dealer isn't reading them, or they don't recognize the symptoms.

The problem is that the DMMs (damper motor modules) are moving when the car has been sitting for a while. These motors are what control air distribution, recirculation, and temperature to both sides of the vehicle. Now their moving when having sat for a period of time is normal (usually overnight), what ISN'T normal is that the CCM (climate control module/computer), is unable to remember where they are supposed to be positioned, or if they need to be repositioned at all! Doh!

The first thing is to make sure the CCM has the updated software part number from the TNN, then you have to have the system self-check the DMMs, then you have to manually set the system to it's various distributions and temp settings. This SHOULD resolve the problem.

The last one of these I worked on though, a judge's XC90, still had the problem after all that. I found the system to be low on refrigerant due to leaking hoses at the TXV. Don't ask me how, as in theory it's supposed to be impossible, but if the system is low on refrigerant, this can cause the symptoms as well. According to Tech Hotline anyway. But, I replaced the hoses, recharged the system, and it worked fine after that. Go figure...

The bottom line? Your dealership isn't doing everything it can to resolve this issue. Which dealership are you taking it to? I'm just curious, as I eventually want to move back to AZ and there are only 3 Volvo dealerships there, and I hope this isn't one of them. "
