Does anyone know if/when there is going to be an s40R (and what engine it will be)? My wife has the 2004T5 which I was thinking about updating to get the AWD/pro logic etc, but I noticed in a website last night (not affiliated with Volvo) that an R in the s40 was possibly to be released in March 2007, if approved. I cant find anything "official" on it, though.

Any ideas?

Peter,

I have read a lot about it on different forums and so far I think it is more a consumer which but I don't believe it is in the plan for Volvo as of yet! There is petitions going on around but Volvo probably doesn't want to hurt its S60R sales or even more its S60. After market mods is your best bet I think but don't take my words for it.

Personnaly I don't think it will happen as it will be expensive and not worthy compare to some competition. I think the S40 is a succesfull car because of its sensitive price point compare other "similar" car and I don't believe an R would work unless it remains close to the T5 cost. And if so what would be left of the T5 sales.

I would have like an R but then I would have probably bought something else if the price became to high!

I still love my T5 and really like Volvo's approach to car design. If I was a longtime fan of Volvo than maybe I could have spent more for an R but that remains a small number of people I think. Too small to make a difference.

 Greg

yeah, I get that a bit with my car - I have the s60R which retails over here for around $110K, as opposed to the "standard" which is a $50K odd car. Hard to justify, although there is a huge difference in finish and under the bonnet.

I was pretty excited when I heard that there might be an s40R, because my wife's T5 handles (and parks) much better than my R, although it is nowhere near as quick. I thought that I could get the best of both worlds...

Do you know if there is much difference in driving the AWD T5 as opposed to the FWD?

Peter, I think there is a big difference between the FWD and AWD. The biggest difference is in how you want to drive. I agree with Greg...I don't think there will be an S40R in the near future.

For myself, I am getting an "R" badge on Ebay and putting it after the "S40" on my car. That is good for me for now LOL

I have a 2006 S40 T5 AWD and i think it handles very well. However..... If you get the AWD be forwarned that it has less trunk space (height) than the FWD version due to the extra hardware, etc.

I was thinking about getting R-badge, too. But then again I got much of a criticism of being not fair or up to the level with true R....or smth
Well, I think if my S40 gets enough mods, it's worth the badge :P
