Hi,

I'm new to the forum so apologies if this has been posted before.

I just bought a new V50 1.8 Sport (UK 2007 model) and the manual indicates that the CD player recognises MP3 and WMA formats. I've tried creating an MP3 CD but the player says disc unrecognised.

Anyone else had any luck with this?

The car just has the performance system as opposed to hig performance or premium - maybe this is the difference (although the manual does not indicate this).

Thanks in advance

Mark

Hi,

I'm also new to this Forum, so I don't know elder Postings so far ;-)

I read this Info about MP3 in the latest description, when my german V50 (Feb2005) was in the garage two weeks ago. I got premium sound and when I ordered it in late 2005 nothing was said about any MP3-compatibility. So I was positively surprised.

I asked the guys about any possibillities like Firmware-Upgrade, and they themselves had to check with VolvoCars directly. They didn't know about it, either.

Their answer: No, not yet and it is not planned so far.
They couldn't even assure, that newer Sound-Systems will be able te read MP3.

So: either changing complete Hardware or waiting for the next car ,-)
In the first case, the order must not be "change hardware" but "make CD-Player MP3 readable", because then you don't have to pay when it doiesn't work ;-)

Good luck and regards from Frankfurt

H.O.G.

Hi all,

I'm completely new here, in fact just registered. :00000732: I had read a couple of posts here before about the V50 and lack of audio featues and felt that I had to update you on the 2007 model and MP3 compatability.

Prior to getting my V50 (SE), I was a bit concerned that the V50 did not have any aux input to the stereo or MP3 compatability as my previous car (Non Volvo) had Mp3 six stack in the boot and I was going to feel lost without it. I could find nothing in the documentation that talked of Mp3.

Image my surprise when my 2007 model arrived with an aux input (headphone style socket) behind the floating console. I used a headphone 2.5mm jack to jack lead and on day 1 was playing my Ipod through the stereo. :)

I was even more surprised on day 3, when I got one of my Mp3 cd's out of my old motor and tried it just for the hell of it. It played and even more so supported the MP3 text. So now I have 6stack Mp3 player again. You can scroll through tracks using the audio tuning control annd by pressing the Enter key on the console, you can choose sub directories off the cd and play individual albums or tracks.

On the negative side, it's not all roses with the audio unit, each time I change to a different disk, I have to go through the menu system to reselect the random option. Bit too much time with eyes off the road for my liking. A shortcut button would do better.

Sorry to hear you guys are not having any luck in this department, hope this helps others who are concerned about lack of features.
