The glove box on my 1994 940 will not open. The keyed lock rotates but the catch will not release. Saw similar problems and pictures in 850 forum. Are these glove box locks the same? Any suggestions to get open with out destroying the door?

i wouldn't try and pry it open in any way. i'd take it to a volvo dealer so they could have a look at it and if they mess it up they can be liable for it. however taking it there might be more expensive. you weigh the options and figure it out but i wouldn't want to break it

Well, I got a little impatient and did break in. Actually this seems to be the only way in that it just damages the lock and not the door, hinges or striker plate.

I took a channel lock plyers to the round exterior of the lock, after removing the black rubber decorative band. I rotated the lock 90 degrees counter clockwise and it popped open. The cause of failure was a soft metal tab had broken or the black plastic plunger that rises up to his the striker plate had jammed. Reason for failure might have been lack of lubrication or just poor quality metallurgy.

So now the trick is to get a replacement lock and cylinder or to somehow repair the poorly designed lock cylinder. Humm, going to a dealer? Didn't even think of that one, but now I see the advantages.
