It all depends on driving style. I normally average 30Highway on long trips and 18 City.
My 02 has 56K and still getting the mileage with no major tune ups.

you're all mostly getting better mileage then me!

My 2.4T gets about 20 city, 28 hwy. I live in Atlanta and about 90% of my driving is stop-and-go traffic under 40mph. The most recent times I recall doing a long trip (120miles) I got ~28/30 mpg.

As a side note, I do not use the 91 octane as recommended per Volvo. I know a bunch of people are going to rip me up for this but listen first:

In Georgia there are ONLY 12 commissioners whose responsibilities include the quality of fuel dispensed from ALL gas stations in the state. Get this: a recent study found that (from my memory) some 60% of all gas station fuels are NOT the octane rating they claim. And this percentage increases at the higher ratings. So the ultra-premium or whatever you want to call it highest octane rating gas offered at most gas stations is actually mostly 87 or 89, if not completely.

Here's the clincher:
The penalty for selling 87 octane through a 91 octane pipe, claiming it is 91 octane gas? A $100 fine.

Even better:
If you get caught doing it 2 times, 10 times, or 100 times, your penality:
$100 fine. Each time.

That's it.

So unless I'm filling up at a gas station that I trust the owners, I use 89.

Firstly for our american friends a US gallon is smaller than the UK imperial Gallon
1 US gallon = 3.78541178 liters, 1 UK gallon is 4.55 litres.
I run a D5 S60 but the mpg is around the 40 mark, The fuel computer reads much higher than the actual by as much as 7mpg. Viper have you relied solely on the info meter or have you done a fill to fill test as I reckon even driving Miss Daisy wouldnt bring in the MPG you say?
