he fabric is peeling back from the windshield posts on my 2000 s80. It has recently gotten bad enough that I have removed the windshield post covers ( does not look very good). Has anyone experienced this problem and come up with a fix? The material is felt-like and I do not want to use just any glue to repair. Want to repair before it detaches totally. I figure I will get one of those little foam paint rollers to apply even pressure when repairing, but do not know what type of glue will not saturate / stain the felt (lite gray in color).

Thanks for any assistance

:cat: Hi there 2000s80.

I had exactly the same problem with the door pillars on both sides just under the safety belts anchor points.

I asked the local Volvo agent where they have all the interior trim done. Armed with the Auto Trimmers address, I took my car to them for their opinion.

Four hours and $150.00 later, I had brand new colour blended trim fitted.

Your could not tell that work had been done. It all looked very original.

Apparently, the glue breaks down in the heat after several years and that is why it's appearance goes off badly.

You are not alone if that is any consolation to you :)

Cheers :right:

absolutely amazing!!! These cars all have the same problems!!
YES i have had this problem where the pillar covering peeled off. The material is sponge backed and the sponge UVs and shrinks the fabric/glue. I removed the panel (very easily) and VERY carefully reglued the fabric using 3M spray glue. I admit that i was careful and very nervious. It came out great, however i broke the clips that hold it on. I got new ones at the dealer and all was well. be careful reinstalling since the air curtain is attached here and must be put back the way it was. LOU

Same problem on my 2000 T6 (right side windshield pillar). Took the wrong advice and tried re-gluing with a fabric glue. Didn't work too well. What is the secret for removing the pillar without destroying it?

Thanks.

- Undo weatherstrip at top - pull down
- remove 2 steel clips
- pull inwards
- then lift

Hi, I am a Newbie. I have an S80 with similair problems of the fabric separating from the panels. I had the panels recoverd and found the problem. My wife would leave opened bottles of water in the holder. This would generate moisture due to the high temperatures inside a locked car in summer. The auto vent fan helps, but just can't keep up. Solution...don't leave opened containers in the car.

I was told by my dealer that this happens because of Volvo's use of environmentally safe materials. Evironmentally safe glue doesn't keep up like the glue other auto manufacturers use.

What a bunch of garbage. They went through all the trouble do design a sporty, safe & performance car, then used the cheapest material possible for just about everything.

I went down to my local wrecking yard & found both windshield pillars in immaculate shape from a relatively new (and crashed) S80 for a whopping $30. It took me less than 10 minutes to swap them out.

sad to hear this is such a common problem on what was their top of the line car. Looked pathetic, so I bought spray glue but busted the clip taking it off. They should have used a better adhesive...period.

Thank you guys for your tips.
Me too have the same problem on my 1999 S80 T6 with 127,000 miles. On the left hand post the fabric gone loose.
So I went to Home Depot and bought the spray adhesive for 8$
It was easy to remove, the clips did not break and the spray was good.
Well done job.
Here are some pics.

good job! I need to buy new clips, when I tried to wiggle the clips out, they broke. the plastic is just too brittle.

On another plastic issue, The front turn lamp module must be made from the same plastic factory, last week it was hanging off the car because the plastic part that locks it in just cracked off.
