I installed an Alpine head unit in my 2001 V70 T5 with new wire harness adapter. Radio works fine but now "SRS Airbag Needs Service" message came on. Did I disconnect something inadvertently or is this standard when disconnecting the radio harnesses? I checked my OBD2 codes and none stored. Did a reset anyway and no go on the airbag message-- it's still in the message center.

Thanks for any assistance.

Did you ever find out what was causing this? Got the same problem with a 2002 V70. Just came on out of the blue, other than the wife was driving, no other reasons

Sorry for such a late response. My Volvo repair garage indicated that the Volvo management system has to be reset to recognize aftermaket radio. They did this for me for $20.

However, I also have considered that the next time I install a new radio I will first disconnect the battery so the computer management system does not see that the wiring harnesses have been disconnected.

This happens a lot. It usually happens when the climatic control unit (the air con control) is disconnected. This unit also has one of the ECU's that control the safety systems and a code is logged even if the ignition is off. Code needs to be reset. Have heard that disconnecting the battery for 24 hours will reset it?

Tip; disconnect the battery when working on or near the electrics.
