Hello volvo fans,

I am planning to buy new tyres for my C70 T5 but I can not decide which tyre to by. I have been using Michelin Pilot Sport however, bubbles easily occur on Michelin. What would you suggest me to buy? Goodyear Eagle F1 gsd-3, Pirelli Pzero Nero, Pirelli Pzero Rosso (by the way what is the difference between rosso and nero), or Dunlop? Or if you have other suggestions you are welcome to do. The tyre must have a perfect road handling, and should have strength to prevent bubbles on tyre caused by holes on the road. Thank you for your assistance.

I'm partial to Bridgetsone, but they dont have an all season high perfomance that fit. I now have Pirelli P-Zero Nero (all-season)

Nero is black, rosso is red in Italian

Nero is asymmetric, and the rosso has both asymmetric and directional which has to do with the tread design for diff applications. This is from The Tire Rack;

"The PZero Rosso System includes both asymmetric and directional tread designs, each tuned to satisfy the unique performance needs of different types of vehicles and uses. The PZero Rosso Asimmetrico is the most widely used because it's designed for both front and rear axle positions of front engine front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive cars (and on all cars driven on the track). The PZero Rosso Direzionale is designed to offer enhanced hydroplaning resistance and is primarily for use on the lighter load carrying front axle positions of mid-engine and rear-engine rear-wheel drive cars (which are then combined with the PZero Rosso Asimmetrico tires on the rear axle positions)."

Also try a search. I know there are a couple topics of tire preferance in the S60 forum.

Don't overlook checking out Bridgestones....super traction, great handling, not to loud, but do wear a bit faster than Michelin.

Just a few cents worth.

Do not get the Pirelli P Zeros. I have an 07 C70, with 18" wheels and P Zeros from the factory. Tires have been rotated twice, but 2 are worn out at 21,000 miles and the other 2 have maybe 40% tread left. I am 50 years old and drive conservatively. These tires are just too soft for everyday use, and wear too quickly. I'm not running a road race out there. They are noisy too. The whole reason I'm here is to try to get feedback on what other brands other owners have used successfully.

Bought some Fuzion Hri that so far I have been happy with. Wear seems to be good although they are a bit louder than the Michelin Hydroedges I had been running. But of course I went from a 16" to a 17" so part of the difference may be in diameter and tread width. Don't really know about long term yet but after about 7,000 miles I don't see any tread wear that concerns me.

I know this ain't a fresh post,
but I wanted to keep it going.

What size tyres do you use 17 or 18" ?

on 18"- Conti sp cont2 wear quick but grip, winter sp dunlop squeal like pigs.

on 19" Pzero nero - squeal and aquaplane thats with 215 front! (235 rear sh8 falken).

on 16" Vreddy Sportrac - not sporty but predictable grip gr8 allrounder best when cold.

just my 2pence worth.....

any1 off 2 retro carshow santapod next week?

The P-Zero Rosso's that came with the 18" Mirzam wheel option (on the current-generation C70's) is a summer-only tire, with a pretty low/poor tread-wear rating. And sure enough they will wear out pretty quickly.

For those who want longer tread-wear, but want to stick with Pirellis, the P-Zero Nero M+S (all season) model has a significantly longer tread-wear rating, without giving up too much in terms of handling. Plus, it won't be terrible in below-freezing temperatures.

The Bridgestone pole position 960AS in 225/40/17's were on my car for 2 years. They still have good tread left on them after 20,000 miles. Excellent tire with great control even in good amounts of snow. Since this tire technology is a bit dated, I decided to put Yokohama ADVANT S4's on 18" Ronal RT's. So far the tires are phenomenal on wet and dry roads. Hopefully they will wear well like the Bridgestones.

First post in here as im normally in the S40 section but I saw the thread title and thought id post some info for anyone interested. Ive taken this from another post I made on an Audi forum.

For info here are a few 2007/8 tyre test results from Uk magazines, all test were very comprehensive.

This is EVOs results on a Mk5 Golf 2.0GTi.
Tyres tested:
1. Bridgestone Potenza RE050-A
2. Continental Contisport Contact 3
3. Dunlop Sport Maxx
4. Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymmetric
5. Kumho Ecsta STP KU31
6. Michelin Pilot Sport 2 PS2
7. Pirelli PZERO Nero
8. Vredestein ULTRAC SESSANTA
9. Yokohama S.DRIVE

Wet Handling:

Lap Times:
1. Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymmetric - 100%

1. Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymmetric - 100%
2. Bridgestone Potenza RE050-A - 98.19%
3. Continental Contisport Contact 3 - 97.44%

Dry Braking - Very little to choose between top and bottom [7% difference]

1. Michelin Pilot Sport 2 PS2 - 100%
2. Vredestein ULTRAC SESSANTA - 99.08%
3. Bridgestone Potenza RE050-A - 98.94%

Best at the Pumps:

Resistance (rolling):

1. Yokohama S.DRIVE - 100%
2. Michelin Pilot Sport 2 PS2 - 97.88%

1. Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymmetric - 100%
2. Michelin Pilot Sport 2 PS2 - 97.19%
3. Bridgestone Potenza RE050-A - 96.18%

Subjective:

1. Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymmetric - 100%
2. Michelin Pilot Sport 2 PS2 - 95.55%
3. Pirelli PZERO Nero - 93.33%

Road Route:

Subjective:

1. Vredestein ULTRAC SESSANTA - 100%
2. Dunlop Sport Maxx - 92.50%
3. Michelin Pilot Sport 2 PS2 - 90.50%

OVERALL RESULTS:

1. Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymmetric - 96.4

A decisive win for the new Goodyear, with more table-topping performances than any other tyre. Better still, those wins came in both the wet and the dry objective test, and subjectively it was voted best tyre on the dry handling course.

2. Vredestein ULTRAC SESSANTA - 95.3

3. Continental Contisport Contact 3 - 93.5

Autocar did there test with these results.(There was a link on the website to the test but I can't find it now)

With result of
1st: Goodyear Eagle F1
2nd: Michelin Pilot Sport 2
3rd: Contintenal ContiSport Contact 3
4th: Bridgestone Potenza RE050A
5th: Pirelli PZero Nero and Rosso

Heres an older review but still very good although the goodyears and contis have been replaced by newer versions.
Hope that helps.

Used Eagle F1 gsd3s on my S40 T4 as they were the quietest tyre and got rid of the awful wheel bearing noise the early S40s suffer from and I was that impressed with them that the new Audi(we bought in 2006) which came with P-zero Rossos fitted as standard had the tyres replaced with GSD3 at 4k miles. The P-zeros were awful they didnt grip very well in the dry and were just dangerous in the wet and that was on a 4wd car. For the price I just dont think you can beat the Goodyear tyres and they pretty much win every test they enter.

Thank you guys,

This topic is two years old. I have been using Eagle F1 GSD-3 for two years now. I am very happy with them. I have driven about 30000km and noticed that the life of this tyre is unbelievable. 6 mm left. But definetely this summer is the end of these tyres. I am also very happy with handling of these tyres.

Next summer I am planning to buy new Goodyear Assymetrics...
