I'm really hoping someone here can help because I've loved my volvo but this is about to put an end to that.
I bought my s40 new in '01 and never had a problem. I had the battery replaced two weeks ago. The person who replaced it called the dealer and got the wrong code to reactivate my HU 615 stereo. He told me he'd get it so just call back. I took the car home, tried it myself. Then I got the "OFF" indicator. Called the person who'd installed the battery but they hadn't gotten the code. I then went to the dealer who told me to leave the car on for 2 hours to reset. Then I got a new code from the dealer. I went home, did everything as instructed and the new code didn't work either.
I took it back to the dealer, apparently the fact that I'd had the stereo unit upgraded before I drove it off the lot made the code harder to get.
So, I waited over the long weekend, but when I got a third code my stereo no longer displays anything. Not even after leaving it on for four hours. No "OFF", no "CODE" no nothing, just a blank screen. I went back to the dealer and various people said different things from "leave it on all day" to "send it in to the main parts division" to "it's dead". So I called volvo who then called the dealer who told her it was a "unit failure".
So now all I'm told is that I can buy a new unit for $500. It seems a huge co-incidence that my unit would fail while they repeatedly bungled my codes.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this.
