Good morning, my name is Marco, I live in Italy and I have been driving a Volvo XC 90 V8 since july 05.
1. When I push the accelerator hard from still, the front wheels spin for a second and then you can feel that the car begins pushing with all four wheels. Is it normal? I read that the most recent version of Volvo AWD system should lock the transmission on all four wheels, starting from still.
2. When I accelerate hard, especially at low speed, the steering becomes hard and doesn' t come back easily to the central position. Quite scary some times!
Again, is it normal?
3. The transmission shifts immediately to a higher gear as soon as I release the gas a bit and, of course, it shifts down one or two gears when I push again. The transmission is therefore very "alive", more than any other car I ever tested.
Can anybody help me in understanding if my car is defective or not?
Thank you in advance for any help.

1 and 3 sound normal to me. As for 2, I would check the fluid level. If it's normal I'd go to the dealer.

Thanks a lot.
Oil level is ok and the dealer says it is normal.
Is it possible that the steering problem comes from the fact that, in normal condition, the majority of the torque goes to the front wheels?
And therefore the XC 90 is in reality, in that situation, a front wheel drive car with too much power?
I remember driving a Vovo V70 T5 turbo petrol front wheel drive with a similar problem.

i appologize if it was said, (i don't understand italian) but i do believe that the steering getting hard durring hard acceleration is normal. I have driven many T6 XC90 and S80 models and also a few of the R models and when you step on it and make it go, the steering gets tighter due to the extreme amount of torque now going to the wheels to drive the car forward.

Thank you, I am afraid you are right.
Unfortunately that is not what I would have expected from a 4WD SUV
that in Italy costs more than 70.000 Euros.
I will test drive the new Mercedes GL as soon as it gets to Italy.
Ciao
