I just purchased a pre-owned 2005 XC90. It has all the bells and whistles one could ask for...except for the premium sound system. I don't know anything about sound systems, but can I have the Volvo dealer install the premium system now or is it a done deal once it leaves the factory? Also, would it be worth it, or should I find some other system at one of those installations places? Thanks to all!

Personally I would have a guality shop quote you a new system. I have the premium system and was quoted $1,000 just to add a subwoofer. I was also told that they cannot add XM radio without using an FM modulator. Seems that Volvo has installed a proprietary system that can't be upgraded. Had I not just bought mine, I would be ripping it out and installing all new.

ChicagoXC90 is right ................. consider an Alpine or something like that. Once you have dropped the $ on the premium system, its too much headache and more $ to make significant changes. Almost equivalent to ripping it all out and starting over.

Firstvolvo,
DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE PEOPLE!!! I am a tech for a local dealer and can help. DO NOT TRY TO HAVE AN AFTERMARKET STEREO PUT IN YOUR VEHICLE!! The radio in your car is a computer module and tied into your vehicles communication network. Meaning that your radio relays information to other computers in your car. If you take out the radio then you will loose communication with the other modules on your low speed CAN network. I had a customer try to do this to his XC90 and it cost him about $3,000 for me to repair his network. His car still never was the same after the insident.

Hey, can I ask you this - I have an s60R and I am not completely happy with the stereo - I think that the pro logic system in the C70T5 that I had before it had a better sound (a bit clearer), and I am getting vibration through the speakers. It has been suggested to me that I upgrade the amp to a 500w setup, but leave the speakers as they are, beacuse they are good anyway. Any thoughts about this?
