Hello Volvo-forums! :)

I have a question regarding an HU-415 radio in a 2002 V40 1.9. This morning when I started the car, the radio was asking me for what seemed to be a password or unlock code of some kind. I believe it needed 4 characters.

I guessed a few times for the obvious ones (1234, 0000, etc)...which I now know was a mistake.

I came across this thread here (http://www.volvo-forums.com/t7040-entering-security-code-for-hu-605.htm) which is very similar to my problem. I just need the correct code for my model radio and a little guidance on how to get the radio out of "off" mode.

Any help would be appriciated, and thanks in advance! :D

Hello v40fan

You need to get the security code from the dealer or the person you bought it from. I think if you disconnect the battery you need to enter these codes again.

Hmm, thanks for the reply batcula! :)

I'll call the dealer tomorrow and ask them. Funny thing was, it just happened randomly. The battery was never disconnected, and the car started and acted normally. I'm just trying to prevent being overcharged for something I may be able to do myself and a service trip to the dealer.

:)

Edit: Fixed a few typos.

I just ran into the same problem today, except I was trying to remove my battery. After I disconnected the cables and hooked them up, I had the same problem.. Sounds like I'll have to see the dealer. Any idea how to remove the battery? There must be some sort of clamp somewhere in additon to the the plastic bracket piece in the front.

Alright...

I've called the dealer, and they said that I would have to bring it to them. They need to decode the radio or something to get the correct password.

I'd really hate to be overcharged for this, and I know there will be a hefty fee to go along with it.

Hoping someone out there can get a code for me! :)

Why on earth does the dealer want to input the code themselves?

They will have the correct code on their computer & so long as you can prove who you are, they should give the code to you free of charge.

If you're locked out of the radio then just do the 2 hour key in ignition trick (stay with the car - security!), then input the code using the "1-20 Disk" selector knob - turn it until the correct first number appears then push it to input that number. Repeat for the next 3 numbers & that's the job done!

Good luck.
