I have got some problems with my 2000 S40, and the major one of these is regarding the rear brakes. I don't even have 18k miles on my tachometer as yet and they need a replacement. The dealers say that it's absolutely normal because the organic pads wear out at a faster rate as compared to the other pads. All of my life I have been dealing with various cars but I've never faced such kinda problem. I'd be really thankful to any one who can give me some nice solution to this problem.

The brake pad of my 2002 40 needs to be replaced with 25K miles. The dealer says the main cause of this is average. I’ve been working on cars for a long time and never had such kind of problem before. The car was serviced more than 12 times during 17 month. What do you think is it OK?

I’ve been owning a 850T since 1997. The worst things about it, is the breaks that wear out about every 20K. I was offered to install after-market brakes but I wouldn’t like them because they are too noisy. There is one more question: does anyone have a Volvo 850, that the cup holder isn’t broken?

I have one that is half broken (there is no the bottom clip on the front holder) but the read one is OK. However, the tray is broken (to be honest I don’t smoke but I want it to work)

The front new pads of my S40 need to be replaced twice as fast as the rears (every 20000 miles). As for me I advice to install the metallic rear pads instead of organic. They produce less heat and stop more effective. So, the real Volvo pads are the best. Not so far I used the aftermarket pads of high quality, but they were enough problematic. If you use them, you’ll apply disc-quiet or another suitable product to the backs of the pads. Otherwise the pads will overheat the rotors causing glazing and warpage. Another trick is cleaning the hub to wheel surface. It piles up rust and prevents the lugs from torque on the rotor.

As for me I can tell you that the S40/V40 is the only one whose rear pads need to be replaced more often than the front. I was told there is a special tool and process to change the pads. It’s not necessary to machine the rotors. It’s recommended to measure the rotor’s Thickness. For some models there is a min thickness. There is a specification book made by Volvo, where you can find specks for lots of items.

I have a Volvo 2000 S40. The worst things about this car is the breaks wearing out so far (once at 14600 and at 23700 miles again). What is more the front headlight went once, the motor in the rear side window had to be replaced, and the CD player is out constantly.
