Has anyone used HC12a as a replacement for R12 freon?

My A/C has had a slow leak and now needs a recharge, I was thinking of using the HC12a when I recharge.

Any info on the subject would be great because I have never done this before.

Thanks
Will in Dallas

I'm thinking of finding and using a "ReChill" kit. I've never done this before, and I'm wondering if I'm to use a specific refridgerant and refill kit. I'll subscribe to this topic and watch for replies! Thanks!

If you search the forums, there are varying opinions about "resealing refrigerants. I believe putting a bandaid on a leaking A/C system will only prolong the inevitable. Plus, there is debate that these sealing types of refrigerant can do damage to the compressor, etc.

I would suggest finding the source of the leak and repairing it. If you take some dishwasher detergent and mix it in with some water in a spray bottle, you can put it on your hoses and find the leak as it will bubble the soap.

Once you detect the leak, seal it with gasket sealer or a new fitting, purge the system and recharge with R132a. If you have not converted from Freon, then you will need to buy a retrofit kit(heavier gaskets, etc).
