Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum, currently driving a new to me S60 T5. I would like to ask when the new design of the S60 is coming out? Not talking about a facelift but a complete new look.

Incidentally, can anyone tell me how long the S60 has been out on the market? And how often does volvo usually change its designs.

Thanks for your answers!

Cheers
Tubbs

As an automotive engineer, we usually work on vehicles with an 8 year cycle.

Example of cycle plan of a car.......

2000 Car introduced
2002 Minor freshening (new leather, software changes etc etc)
2004 Major freshening (usually a slightly modified front and rear)
2006 Minor freshening (anything styling request to shift the dropping volume of cars etc)
2008 New model

I was under the impression that a new S60 was out later this year as 10 years is a long time for one model of car to be out for.

I have been searching around on line and found some pictures of the 09/10 S60. This thing is an ugly car. They stray from the nice straight lines and understated Volvo look and it is flashy wavy lines to it. I really like the straight lines on our current model. I am not saying there isn’t a need for an update, but I really think this is way too radical of a change. If this is the new model I will be in the market for a gently used 08 S60R.

I agree, that doesn't look like a volvo at all, even ignoring that it's still pretty ugly. not sure what they were going for but i'd say they missed it.

Thinking back to when I first seen the current S60 - I didn't like it very much at all.

However like everthing else, once you get used to seeing them around, the shape kinda grew on me.

But I actually quite like the look of this new one, I agree it doesn't look like a volvo - but then again niether did the current one when it was launched.

There is one thing I don't like about it though - the rather large 'VOLVO' eblem on the boot lid is tacky.

Looks like it's melting :puzzled: What's going on at Volvo and with their new lead designer. They were getting their act together with the later versions and now that sales are down for the last past year they start to follow asian trends? HAAAAAAaaaaaaaa......

I which they'de understand better what people want. I think Volvo current models are among the best looking cars out there and if they shoudl feel the pressure it should be for the rest not styling. Cmon...!

I'm with you I do think it is melting. I didn't see many Volvo's on the road until about the last 3 years, now people stop me in parking lots with wow that’s a Volvo, its unique special nothing looks like it. I rides like a luxury car but drives like a spots car. I would refine the interior add some creature features maybe change some things very subtlety but man I just don't see this redesign doing nearly as well. This car makes me feel like they maybe losing touch with who got them here. :grouphug:

There's an article in the latest edition of Motor Trend that says Volvo is now looking at dropping the S60.

Hope they don't drop the S60. Looking at the pictures. Put it side by side with the 3 series BMW and tell me where the styling cues are coming from. As with most concept drawings and preliminary designs the cars usually get toned down a bit. I'll have to let it grow on me for a while, like I did with the new Bimmers, but as of right now I'm not repulsed and retching on the floor.
