andreabatt@juno.com :blush: I took my 2001 2.9 S80 with 64K miles into the Volvo dealer today to get the Electronic Throttle System Campaign "fix".

After this fix, which consists of a software patch, it resets the air/fuel mixture to the factory default values. After the "fix" the car will not idle and lunges when idling. The exact symptoms the campaign/recall was supposed to fix???? I called the dealer back and they told me that can happen due to normal wear/tear residue buildup in the oil box(fancy PCV valve filter) and that it needs to be replaced. OK, next question, how much? $500 What!!!!! Apparently the fuel/air mixture value in the ETS change as the car ages and when this upgrade is done, the values are all reset to factory default values and the car will now barely run. Prior to having this "fix" done, the car was running fine and the only noticeable thing was I was only getting 19mpg according to the calculation onboard. The values in the ETS are forever gone and now I am being asked to pay for what amounts to a $500 PCV filter. Apparently this "oil box" is buried in the block of the engine. The service advisor at the dealership is empathetic and is trying to get Volvo to waive or pay for part of the repair cost. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Advice...... unless your vehicle is exhibiting problems with uneven engine idle or the other symptoms the campaign oulines DON'T get this upgrade as you may find yourself in the above situation.
