Two ideas come to mind,

1 us kids are more likely to be internet literate and liable to "join in"

2 the older ones may have the money to go to the garage, or a lack of enthusiasm to get under the bonnet (hood?) and this place does get technical at times :D

well I'm 25 and driving a 2005 s40 2.4i -- I suddenly do feel a little "old", driving a VOLVO!!
But then, the new Volvo's are sooooo sexy and sporty YET ultra-safe. Maybe it's more a sense of responsibilty and accomplishment that makes it so appealing to younger drivers?

The 2005 S40 was designed and marketed for the younger drivers. They are trying to pull in a whole new class of drivers.
